My easy to crochet angel ornament free pattern was an inspiration after I created my last angel project out of old jeans. Angels are my favorite all year round home decoration, but for Christmas, they have a very special meaning. Specifically, angels are messengers that announce the birth of Jesus.
I really like Roswitha Mueller’s crochet angel, that’s why I modified her pattern to crochet my angel’s skirt. Also, I like to mix materials in my projects so, I used bead for the head and button for the halo. Let’s get ready to use an easy to crochet angel ornament free pattern!
MATERIALS:

yarn #4 in the color of your choice– my favorite is Love this cotton or Lions brand 24/7 cotton

white yarn #4 with sparkly thread – Truboo Sparkle or Loren Silver – for the wings

crochet hook G 4.0
-
1” wooden bead
-
1” golden color button (for the halo)
-
tapestry/yarn needle
-
hot glue gun (optional)
-
stitch marker
ABBREVIATIONS:
ch – chain
sc – single crochet
st(s) – stitch(es)
ss – slip stitch
dc – double crochet

The finished angel measures around 4.5″ tall.
Step 1. SKIRT
Use yarn in color of your choice and hook size G 4.0mm
Make a magic circle – make sure to leave a long tail of yarn and work in rounds – NO slip stitching.
Use a stitch marker to keep track of where you are in a pattern.
1: ch1 (does not count as a stitch), 6sc into the magic circle (6)
2: (2sc in next sc, sc in next sc) x3 (9)
3: (2sc in next sc, sc in next 2sc) x3 (12)
4: (2sc in next sc, sc in next sc ) x6 (18)
5: (2sc in next sc, sc in next 2sc) x6 (24)
6: (2sc in next sc, sc in next 3sc) x6 (30)
7-8: sc in each sc around
9: (2sc in next sc, sc in next 4sc) x6 (36)
10-14: Sc in each sc around (36)
15: (ss in next sc, ch5, skip next 2sc) x12 – last ss in first ss
Finish off
Step 2. WINGS
Use white with silver thread yarn and hook size G 4.0mm
1. make a magic circle, ch3 (counts as a dc)
2. work 11 dc into the circle, ss to the 3rd st of ch3 (12)
3. ch3, dc in same st, 2dc in each next dc around, ss into top of ch3 (24)
4. ch3, dc in same st, 2dc in each next dc around, ss into top of ch3 (48)
5. (ch5, skip next 2dc, ss in next dc) x16 – ss in first ss
Cut the yarn, leaving a long tail.
Step 3. ASSEMBLE ALL THE PIECES TOGETHER
Thread the tapestry needle onto the yarn tail on the angel’s skirt.
Insert the needle through the bead and one hole on the button.
Now, thread the needle back into the second buttonhole and the bead to the inside of the skirt. Leave a 3” loop of yarn at the top and make a knot close to the button. Secure the yarn inside the skirt by making a knot.
Thread the needle onto the yarn tail on the wing piece.
Fold the circle in half right side together and fold the outer edges back to the middle.
Stitch through the middle a few times to secure the wings and stitch it to the back of the angel.
Optional: you can hot glue the wings onto the angel as well.
As you see in the picture below, the crochet angel ornament looks beautiful with different colors of yarn. Also, this easy to crochet angel ornament makes a customized crochet Christmas gift.

Love this little angel & want to make it for my little Christmas tree. I am just wondering about the 1″ bead u used – does it hv holes in both ends. All the ones I look at seem to only hv only one hole – I tried following the link u had for it but it just goes to general items & if I try to search it still gives a whole bunch of items to scroll thru not just beads. Any help u can give me wud be appreciated. I hv the skirt part done but mine does not look like yrs – mine looks misshapen compared to yrs – I wud send u a pic but don’t think I can here. Many tik.

This is such a gorgeous little angel – will try making for myself – was originally looking for a pattern to make for my Random Acts of Crochet Kindness project which I am donating to a senior’s home since I am housebound with health problems (lymphedema & arthritic hip) hv 135 residents to crochet for on one floor so this is too much for that project so will be keeping for self – just so pretty – love, love, love. tk u for sharing yr talent and yr pattern – much appreciated.
