Easy to Make a No-Sew Face Mask Free Pattern

Use my no-sew face mask free pattern and learn how to make an easy no-sew face mask with filter pocket in no time! You will quickly make a double layered no-sew face mask with filter pocket using a T-shirt!

I have learned that you can make no-sew face mask for personal use following CDC recommendations and guidelines. I thought that it would be a good idea to make the face mask double layered, so you can put filter material in between. According to the CDC you can use a coffee filter as an extra layer of protection. In my opinion, the no-sew mask that the CDC recommends doesn’t look appealing. I think my mask looks more pleasant and also meets the requirements.

Let’s get ready to use my no-sew face mask free pattern with filter pocket!

I designed the face mask that you can wear in two ways. One way requires two thin hair bands that you put on pleated sides of the mask. And the other way is just twisting the mask right by the openings and put them over your ear lobes. What you need for easy to make no-sew face mask with filter pocket.

I am sure you already have what’s needed to make no-sew face mask in your home, and that is a T-shirt. T-shirts are made out of knit fabric that is 100% cotton material or have some spandex added to the fabric. Either one works fine, although the 100% cotton ones tend to be thicker and less stretchy.

And, because knit fabrics are stretchy you won’t need to use any elastic. The stretch of the t-shirt goes from side to side and you need to know that especially after you cut up the t-shirt into pieces. Make sure you match the stretch direction of the fabric with the stretch arrow on the template. It is really important because that way the finished mask will nicely fit to your face.

I designed the free pattern to make the no-sew face mask in adult and child size and you can find them in my resource library. To get the password to it, fill out the form at the bottom of this page.

You will also need sharp fabric scissors to easily cut the knit fabric and the heavy duty 9” tailor scissors are my favorite.

I am happy to teach you how to make no-sew face mask double layered with filter pocket.

Step 1. Cut out front or back of the t- shirt and fold it in half, along the stretch direction and pin the template to the fabric on fold.

Step 2. Cut out the mask following the template and you are basically done.

Put filter material in between the mask layers and fold it back aligning the top edges together and folding them about half of an inch to one side.

Step 3. Using your fingers, plead the sides of the mask right by the ear openings. And then, put the hair band on twisting it twice for adult size and three times for child size.

  1. Hi Agnes. I’m looking to make these masks at school with 6th, 7th & 8th graders. If I just print out that template as is, will it be the correct size, or do I need to enlarge or anything? Also, do you know about how many masks I could get out of one yard of fabric? I will be buying the t-shirt fabric in bulk instead of actual t-shirts since we’ll be making so many.

    • Hello Gina,
You don’t need to enlarge the template, it will print in actual size. You should be able to make 7 child size masks out of one-yard fabric. Let me know if you have any more questions.

This pattern is such a wonderful one since we all don’t sew. or have material on hand or that you can purchase at this time and have you tried to buy elastic? This one is perfect. Thank-you it won’t cut behind the ears. My granddaughter and I are going to make lasting memories making a lot of these. And that’s all because of you. God Bless you as I already know he has a thousand times over.
